Tune in to nature

Discover the joy of birdsong with the Merlin ID app

If you love the sound of birdsong, and are a curious mind just like me – the Merlin Bird ID app is a brilliant (and free!) way to learn more about the feathered friends around you. It’s incredibly simple to use – just press record, and the app listens out for the birds singing nearby. Within seconds, it tells you which birds you’re hearing!

Build Your Own Bird Collection

You can save your sightings to your favourites or even start your own collection of birds you’ve spotted – complete with where and when you heard them. I use it all the time – on walks, in the garden, or even while I’m working from home. It’s amazing how often the app can pick up birdsong through the window!

Science Meets Wellbeing

The app was created by the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology, so it makes me feel even better to know that every time I use it, I’m not just learning – I’m contributing to real scientific research. Your recordings help scientists better understand bird populations, migration patterns, and how our environment is changing.

Connect with Nature, Anytime

It’s a wonderful way to connect with nature, boost your wellbeing, and support conservation at the same time. Why not give it a try next time you hear birdsong?
